Unfortunately situations can occur where your facilities assessments or Care Plans fall behind. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Your MDS coordinator goes on vacation and their back up becomes ill, or a huge wave of Medicare admissions hits your doors (lucky facility!). URGENT VS. CRITICAL NEEDS

Urgent needs: Either the MDS assessments fall behind or the Care Plans that follow fall behind. When this occurs all processes can go awry. Assessments are incomplete, leaving RAPs incomplete, leaving no Care Plans or Care Plans that do not match your residents’ needs. This can lead to a critical situation! Critical needs: Your facility is facing the possibility of default Medicare reimbursement rates. When assessments are not completed within their date due or not transmitted in time, your facility looses money. Tens of thousands possibly hundreds of thousands of needed dollars could be at risk if your needs are not met immediately. Money loss affects your ability to provide all that your SNF would or should be able to for your residents.
